If you could make it so that "reply" made it respond with whatever name they used to send the tell to, that would be great.

      Example:
      tell @Rhodry Hey dude
reply Sup – @Rhodry replies ‘Sup’
      tell (charname) Hey dude
reply Sup – (charname) replies ‘Sup’

Except that you could still do it. You could send a message to an account on one topic, and then switch to talking to them via character, and if the conversation flows as if you hadn’t changed over, then they’re the same person.

If they reply going, "WTF are you talking about?" then it’s not. =p

Which is why we need an extra line.
      I send.

      Again. I send

      Sent to*, not too.

Anyway, I prefer Modem’s suggestions. Keeps the spam down by keeping it all one one line.

One line is just fine, I was simply making it simple for people who did not fully read the post :p
      Also edited. Thank you.

For simplicities sake, I’m in agreement with Modem.

The person receiving the tell sees:

(OOC) @Kirash tells (character/account name): blah

Maybe make the person sending the tell White and the name it is sent to the &r red so it’s easier to distinguish stuff.

Would it be a horribly idea if:

      Sent to Account
      [code:12s4bktu]@Troll tells @you ‘lol'[/code:12s4bktu]

      Sent to Character
      [code:12s4bktu]@Troll tells you ‘lol'[/code:12s4bktu]

Iunno, probably makes it harder to miss.

I like Gathorn’s idea a lot, a few good ideas have been brought up in the thread.

Even if it’s just made so that it’s @Troll tells @you or you, and you keep account name white (like when you’re sending it to someone) and character name blue, I’d like it a lot.

I’ve been thinking lately about the ability to send a tell from an alias. I don’t know what sort of abuse it would get, but it would have its uses. A little while ago I played a character who didn’t give out her real name — and I know there’s a lot of people who do that — but I also didn’t want people to know I played her. I eventually gave up and both her real name and my account name became fairly common knowledge, but for a little while I could not send tells. The person you were talking to would still be able to respond using "reply", but they wouldn’t learn your account or character names. Thoughts?

I think in all my time playing here tell is probably my least used command. I could probably count the amount of times i’ve used it on both hands. That being said some of you use this game as more of a chat program sometimes but personally i don’t like using it because of the above mentioned problems with account/character infringements, as i don’t generally promote who i play unless people ask me where i live, which sadly gives it away.

My suggestion would be remove the @account prefix so it has to be personal character to character tells, would remove all the problems and douchery as Ilyena suggested. Means there’s no hit and miss or accidents, either you know their character or you don’t.

What she is getting at is that doesn’t always work man. What if I suspect you play a wroonian named bob but I am not sure. I send a tell to bob or I might even send a tell to @troll. She wants a way to see what they sent a tell too. If I send it to @troll and bob reply’s OMG I KNEW IT! or send a tell to bob and troll reply’s.[/quote:1z34caml]

Ohh! Now I get it. Maybe make it so that when you have account chatnamed, a tell can only be sent to either your ACCOUNT or your CHARACTER, whichever is the visible one at the time? Otherwise it will result in a "player is not online" message to prevent the sender from figuring it out.
