NEW NEWBIE

The term 'newbie' refers to somebody new to a game. One of a MUD's most important areas for success is the ability to draw and keep new players; however well a MUD's staff can do this will determine how long the MUD is around. In a roleplay-enforced environment like ours, new players help keep the RP from becoming stagnant and repetitive. It's a very good thing to tell your friends about LotJ because that is how we grow.

There are three primary channels new players should refer to. The RPC channel is a direct line of communication with the Roleplay Council. Likewise, the IMMCHAT channel is a method of communicating with the game's immortal staff. Players are free to ask any questions they have on these two channels without fear of violating IC/OOC rules. If no one is available on either channel (refer to the WHO list), OOC is a global channel for communicating with every player currently connected to the mud.

Legends of the Jedi is home to many features that place it a step above stock SWR. The following is a small preview of these features:

As a new player unfamiliar with the MUD, not all areas will cater to your learning. The following areas have been deemed newbie friendly:

Moving Through The Game

The game world of Legends of the Jedi are divided into countless rooms that are linked together through various directions. When you are standing in a room a list of exits will be provided. It should look something like this:

Obvious exits:
East - <> West Parma Street <>
South - Lorrd City Regent Hotel
West - <> West Parma Street <>

Note the key word 'obvious'. Some rooms may contain hidden exits hinted at in room descriptions or quest clues that are not listed. To move, simple type the name of the direction you wish to travel. The following is a list of the basic movement commands, and their shorthand keyword.

Directional Commands
North (n)
South (s)
East (e)
West (w)
Up (u)
Down (d)
Southeast (se)
Northeast (ne)
Southwest (sw)
Northwest (nw)

In your prompt, you will see either MV or Movement. If your movement points reach 0, you will be unable to move between rooms due to exhaustion. Movement points regenerate automatically, although RESTing or SLEEPing will cause them to regenerate faster. Please note that while in either of these states you are vulnerable. Don't go sleeping in a place where you aren't safe!
