LotJ Dictionary
From LotJWiki
Below are some terms that you will probably need to know to be able to play Legends of the Jedi to its fullest extent. This list is ever growing, but here's a start:
- A
- AFK (Away From Keyboard): "AFK" means exactly what it sounds like: that you're away from the MUD for a short period of time and will return. The [AFK] flag is there to alert other players of this and to prevent them from trying to abuse your unresponsiveness (theft, assault, etc.). Note that the use of the [AFK] flag to avoid death, capture, etc. is a direct violation of the rules.
- B
- C
- D
- E
- Era: An era is a specific time frame within a timeline. Timelines are generally separated into three distinct eras (Old Republic, Empire, New Republic), though this might not always be the case.

- OOC (Out Of Character): "OOC" can refer to the OOC channel, LotJ's main chat channel. It can also be used as an adjective to describe actions that are directly out of character: an action that's done by the player, not by the character. The use of IM abbreviations and/or "smilies" on an IC channel (e.g. say, clan, talk) is a typical example of this. While most OOC actions are considered bad form by roleplayers, extreme examples can be in violation of the rules.
- P
- Perm: A "perm" is a PERManent kill. Such deaths can be contested once, if a rule is broken, via RPCTrial. See: PK and Perming
- PWipe (Player Wipe): A pwipe is a complete deletion of all characters. Typically, a pwipe will follow an End of Era event that brings a timeline to a close. Pwipes also delete all names that were reserved during the timeline for past or current characters. These wipes are accompanied by other, secondary wipes of bank accounts, player-owned houses, shops, and ships, et al. Essentially, a pwipe wipes the slate clean.
- Q
- R
- RPC (Role Play Council): The RPC is a subset of LotJ's staff; they are elected by our playerbase to serve terms. The job of an RPC member is to vote on contested perms (see: PK and Perming) and, historically, to vote on the passage of new rules. The list of current RPC members can be found on the in-game wizlist.
- S
- T
- TL (Timeline): A timeline encompasses the entire time frame of the current Legends of the Jedi story. Timelines are generally split up into three eras (Old Republic, Empire, and New Republic), though there has been at least one instance of a fourth era. Similar to when an era is brought to a close, the end of a timeline is signified by an End of Era event. After the event, the MUD is typically locked for a duration of time to allow the Immortal staff to prepare for the new timeline.
