General Information

First things first! To check your current levels, type ‘Score’. Many, if not all of the classes, will read as Level: 1 /---. Once you reach level 3, you will learn the class’s max level.

To gain levels, you will need to get experience (exp). All categories gain experience independently of each other, and your overall character level corresponds to whichever level is the highest. To see your current experience and how much is needed for the next level, use the ‘level command’.

There are two primary methods of leveling: action and quest leveling. Action leveling involves using a skill within the class to gain experience. An example is flying a ship to another planet (piloting exp) or constructing a new container (engineering exp). Quest leveling involves performing a quest. Refer to help quest for more info. Experience varies depending on the quest. Some rare quests are worth experience in multiple classes.

Powerleveling

One feature exclusive to Legend of the Jedi is anti-powerleveling code. In the past, it was possible to avatar rather quickly by collecting a large number of quest items and leveling quickly. It works as following:

If you complete an action which rewards you with experience and you complete the same action within 30 seconds, you lose 10% of the initial experience. For instance: say you have 10 Twinkie packages. Upon giving Twink the initial package, you earn 10,000 experience. Give Twink another package right after that, and get 9,000 experience. Another after that, 8,000 experience. Roughly every 30 seconds, the experience gained increases 20% until it reaches its original output.

And now, tips for leveling each class!

Combat

Combat is one of the simplest classes to level. Combat is action-based, requiring you to kill something to gain experience. The difficulty rests in finding the right mobs to kill. Two important factors in combat are your hitroll accurascy(HR) and damroll damage (DR). Hitroll is your character’s accuracy while damroll is the amount of damage your character deals. There are a number of items which makes combat easier, such as the platinum chain bracelets sold on Corellia. There are plenty of other items that will boost your stats, but you will have to find them on your own.

To see if a mob is stronger or weaker than you, use the “consider <mob> full” command. To change the setting of the blaster, use the “setblaster command”. If a battle is not going well, use the flee command to run away.

Due to the anti-powerleveling code, killing more than 10 of the same mob will render virtually no experience. It is important to keep moving around to different areas to get full experience.

Piloting

Flying spacecraft is one of the most exciting features of any Star Wars mud, but can be challenging to those unfamiliar with the system. First things first, you need a spaceship. A rental shuttle can be used by using the ‘taxi’ command at any landing pad (note: this requires 400 credits and a comlinks). Open the shuttle using the command “open <ship name>” and board the rental using “board <ship name>”. Once aboard, proceed to the cockpit and use the “launch” command. Once your ship has completed the launch sequence, you will be in space. Three important commands are the “radar” command (which shows the coordinates of objects in the system), the “proximity” command (which shows the distance of all objects in the system), and the “stat” command (which displays vital information about your ship).

To travel to another planet, you will need to calculate a hyperspace route. Type ‘calculate <system name>’ to plot a random hyperspace jump. The calculations take time, and to check the status type “navstat”. Once you get a message confirming your course, type “hyperspace” to make the jump to lightspeed. The hyperspace jump will take some time, but once it is complete you will emerge in the new system. To get to the planet, it is highly recommended you microjump closer to the planet.

To do this, use the radar command to get the planet’s coordinates. You cannot jump directly to the planet, so add 500 to any one of the ‘X Y Z’ coordinates. To calculate the jump, use the command string “calculate <planet name> <x coordinate> <y coordinate> <z coordinate>. Once the calculations are complete, enter hyperspace. Once you exit hyperspace use the command “course <planet>” to aim your ship at the planet. Note that you must be traveling under 100 speed to enter orbit. To slow your ship, use the command “speed <speed>”. Once you enter orbit, you can land. Type “land” to get a list of landable objects. Type “land <object>” to get a list of landing pads, and “land <object> <pad>” to land on the pad.

Diplomacy

Diplomacy can be one of the most rewarding classes role-playing wise and are huge assets to any organization. The majority if diplomatic leveling is quest based, until you are able to use skills to level. There are a wide variety of package quests to level diplomacy. The most basic is the package delivery system. Type ‘help package’ for more information. The package delivery system will give you package(s) to deliver when you are at a delivery center. Not only do packages give diplomacy experience, they also give a decent amount of credits.

Engineering

Engineering is a mostly action-based leveling class. It is one of the easiest classes to level but hardest to perfect. All that is involved with engineering is building containers until you can makejewelry.

Related Stats: Intelligence

Espionage

Espionage is purely quest-based leveling. There are numerous packages to deliver to level espionage. One such package is found on Corellia. The package must be delivered to a wandering mob. There is another espionage quest on Wroona; check the private investigation service building.

Bounty Hunting

Once you're pointed in the right direction, gaining levels in bounty hunting is actually very easy once you're good enough at combat and have some decent armor. Its getting the skills that is extremely hard and simply may actually never happen making all the leveling and patience for nothing.

I will number the steps needed to gain levels in bounty hunting.

1. you should begin on the planet Lorrd and begin mining the gems and then selling them at the buyback store. This will also give you smuggling levels. You can earn a lot of credits fairly quickly while doing this after you master the dig skill. After you have about 1.5 million credits buy some armor and a good weapon of your choosing. This is to also give you a respectable appearance in the eyes of a bounty hunter should you meet one. They respect strength. This will probably cost you all of the credits you've saved up. If so dig some more and save up another million. This takes us to step two.

2. Next you will start learning combat in the droid combat training facility also on planet lorrd. You can do it all entirely on your own if you want or you can use the credits you saved up in the mines to pay a combat specialist to train you personally. It has to be worth their time to do it so around five hundred thousand to a million credits depending on how far he/she agrees to take you should be about right. Sometimes you can RP with someone friendly enough to do it for free but they usually won't take you all the way through. The combat facility won't max your combat level though. After about level 92 you will stop gaining experience. This takes us to step three.

3. Once you stop getting experience from the droids check out the bounty office near the mines and look at the list of bounties and copy it down so you don't need to keep coming back to it. I probably cannot tell you where all of them are located on the planet but after spending so much in one place I've already told you to go you will have seen many of the fugitives on the list. They will drop items that you will need to give to the bounty office manager as proof of the kill. You'll be paid the price on the head plus the bounty hunter experience. The experience will never get lower as you go up in levels but it will become ineffective as it starts to take thousands of points for the next level.

4. After the Lorrd fugitives aren't enough for experience you will have to go to Tatooine and hunt Tusken Raiders or Ord Mandell to hunt more dangerous fugitives. These will also drop a weapon that you will have to give to a certain mob to gain the bounty and experience. At this point you will also be gaining combat experience as well. At this point in your quest to become a bounty hunter you will have a choice. You can stay on Tatooine or Ord Mandell and gain levels from the raiders/fugitives or you can go to Ryloth if your skills of combat and armor is good enough.

5. I would only recommend going to Ryloth if you know how to repair armor, know first aid and have a lot of medpac's, own very good armor, and have two good force pikes. On Ryloth you will find Lyleks, big vicious creatures who will tear your armor to shreds if you do not keep up in repairs. They use melee combat which is why I said good force pikes because they do better against melee mobs. Knowing the force pike skills will make it much easier in the long run. Fighting them also give you access to a quest as well. But they are very dangerous, when I first started fighting them there were many times when I would escape the mines with only 34HP points left. They do give more bounty hunter experience and it does give you access to a quest that will give you some helpful items but the risk of death is serious there.

                                         Bounty Hunter Skills

Now dealing with bounty hunter skills, its a massive galaxy wide quest that I will not go much into detail about because it separates the wannabe's from the real deal. You will first have to find a specific planet and a specific location on that planet. You can find out by RPing with other aspiring bounty hunters that respect you (Why I said buy very good armor and weapons) or if need be you can buy the information.

After you get there you will have to do a quest for each skill to show that you are worthy of that skill. It will involve finding a specific mob on a planet that you will not know the name of but will be given a hint of it. Killing the mob and bringing the quest item all the way back and giving it to the mob that gave you the mission.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Finishing the quest (if ever) does NOT teach you the skill, You cannot research or practice them after finishing the quest. All you will get from it is a small piece of a whole set of Excellent armor. Each piece represents your worthiness of being a bounty hunter. You will have to show it to a hunter should you ever find one as proof that you are worthy of being taught the skill and if you are lucky he will teach you the skills related to the items. If you can ever find a bounty hunter master to show them to without getting yourself killed in the process.

It is the long treacherous journey that will make you strong enough to be a real bounty hunter, getting the levels is just scratching the surface. It will take a lot of time and patience and the acceptance that you may never even meet a master to teach you if you can even convince him to take you under his wing let alone get out of the encounter alive if you can't. They can be tough customers.

Medical

The medical class can be leveled by getting medical supplies to certain mobs on certain planets. Corellia is a good place to start. As well as practicing and using the skills on other players in need also do well.

Smuggling

Smuggling is one of the classes that's right up there, in my honest opinion, with science. It can be a grueling time, in order to get your levels up, but at the same time, very rewarding. You learn different things about planets that you explore, and overall, it's a great learning experience. And if you head from planet to planet, you gain great piloting experience as well.

There are two ways to gain levels in smuggling...

1. You can ponder up to level 30, gain the study skill and then study datachips pertaining to your smuggling class skills; and

2. Head to Corellia or Wroona (possibly other planets), purchase a weapon of sort, ie: daggers, blasters, etcetera. Once you purchase these weapons, head to a customs officer (on Wroona), and stand around. Eventually, you will notice that your character will gain valuable experience from smuggling these weapons. On another note, MAKE SURE THAT YOU PUT YOUR WEAPONS IN A BAG!!! If you don't, you will lose smuggling experience and your weapons will be taken away from you by the custom officers or security guards.

In my opinion, I would head to Corellia. Once you head to Corellia, go to the Alpha Pad, head east three (3) times until you see a store named 'Cutlery Plus'. Head north, into the shop. Type list and buy dagger. The weapon you will want to purchase, and most cost effective, are the 'a stiletto vibro dagger'. They're about 357 credits a piece. I usually purchase 5 of them, that way they're automatically put into a bag. Once you have purchased the daggers, head south, east, south, south, and then southeast. What you're looking for is a shop called 'Coronet Pawn'. Once there, remove the daggers from the bag and sell them to the pawn shop owner. When you sell smuggled items to pawn shops, you gain smuggling experience.

All in all, you will gain smuggling experience from smuggling the items in packs, when a guard is around, and then additional smuggling experience from selling them to a pawn shop.

Another way to gain smuggling experience (and credits!) is to mine on Lorrd. Here is a link to another LotJWiki which explains in detail, http://www.legendsofthejedi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Guide_to_making_credits!#Smuggling

Where/how to practice smuggling skills... Can't figure out where to practice your smuggling skills? No one available to teach you? Here's a guide on all of that...

If you have smuggling skills which are not practiced, head to Tatooine. What you're looking for is a cantina near the Mos Eisley spaceport. It's name is "Chulo's Cantina". Look around for a guy named Boshek and then practice the smuggling skills which are at 0. You will only be able to get them to a percentage level of 20%, which you must practice beyond that. Unless you find someone who is adept at teaching and the skill, then they can teach it to you which may raise it a bit higher than the NPC Boshek.

Now, here's how you can practice those skills...

If you want to adept your begging skill, look for a citizen npc (non-player character) on any planet. FOLLOW the npc, APPROACH the npc, GIVE 1 credit to the npc, and then BEG from the npc. One thing to keep in mind is that in order to give a credit to an npc you MUST be close to that npc. Continue to do this tactic and you'll eventually gain adept in begging.

If you want to adept dig, head to Lorrd, refer to the 'Guide to making credits/smuggling' section above. It is a detailed way of how to earn credits and practice your digging. Basically, you want to get a shovel on Lorrd and then hit the Lorrdian mines. Be mindful that some locations in the mine cannot be dug into, but most are.

If you want to adept search, there are two ways to do this... one is to search continuously until you gain adept. The other, and if you're trained to level 40 of espionage, is to conceal any item and then search. You will gain valuable experience in both skills, and could possibly adept both at the same time.

If you want to adept 'sneak', just type and enter sneak over and over until you adept it.

If you want to adept 'climb' head to Wroona. Take the ferry across the water and look for a place where you need to climb UP in order to proceed further. Continue to CLIMB up and CLIMB down until your skill is adept.

If you want to adept 'slip', look for any npc. FOLLOW the npc, APPROACH the npc and slip 1 credit <npc>. Continue this until you are adept. You can also do this with another player.

If you want to adept 'hide', type and enter hide over and over until it is adept.

If you want to adept 'peek', approach a player or npc and LOOK at them over and over until it is adept.

I hope this guide helps you out, as it did for me!

Leadership

Leadership levels can be gained by grouping players and 'leading them to victory in battle'.

This is most easily done in the combat hologram/droid training buildings. Group players and than summon a bunch of droids or holograms and destroy them. You can either do the killing or someone better at combat can but as long as you are leading the group you will take the leadership experience. Its very fast and easy to level.

Science

Science is a very long and grueling class to level. It can take days depending on how much time you have to get to get to level 30 alone through pondering but after that it gets easier if you study the data chips relating to different skills but the data chips can be hard to find and expensive. Mining on Lorrd will help you get the funds quickly for that.
