[b:hjbektqv]Encrypt Ship File And Further[/b:hjbektqv]

One of the largest problems I have seen on LOTJ is the ability to get a player’s legit name via just checking the names on ships. In all honestly, people wouldn’t just be able to jump right into a database of names that lists every ship and their owner. However, since thats already in, why not allow slicers the ability to encrypt files for shipyard names, or somehow set a ship so it can’t be tracked in the database? Smugglers aren’t going to have legit files on their ships…in fact you’d be lucky to get any info at all on it when you looked it up. Basically I just think there should be a better way to disguise a ship from who owns it, an ability to counter locateship.[/quote:hjbektqv]

I’d much rather see ‘owner name’ changed so something along the line of transponders. Transponders would basically be a semi-permanent number affixed to a starship when it is built. This leaves room for a nice 150 level slicer skill to change your transponder to a new random number.[/quote:hjbektqv]

Or invent a whole new system of "hacking" for high level(maybe 150) slicers, where they can "hack" and amend details in all sorts of databases. Clan funds(altering, not stealing.), revealing hidden clan information, or hiding known information, ship owner names, GNI updates(citizens, government official, where or not people are happy)…there’s plenty of room.

Then just rename the "hack" command that is currently in to something like, "crack"..or such.[/quote:hjbektqv]

That is a real neat idea, there. You could keep the hack skill at its current level, but incorporate the sort of tiered feature found in diagnose (IE, the higher level, the more information you can see). The higher level slicer you are, the more functions you will have at your disposal.[/quote:hjbektqv]
